Contraceptive Changeover

Hello!

So I've basically come on here to whinge. As you may know from my previous post on contraception, I've had a fairly rocky ride on hormonal contraceptives. Since that post I've been on two different pills - the 'combination pill' and the progestogen only pill (POP). Both of them were fine for a while and then my body started to react badly so I had to change. But last week I decided enough was enough and that I was going to stop hormonal contraception altogether. Having pretty much exhausted all the options, I've decided to try the copper coil. It's not hormonal and lasts for 5 years so hopefully it'll be a good option.

Right this minute though, I'm going through the intense withdrawal stage after stopping the pill. I suppose I'm writing this so anyone else going through this doesn't feel alone. I must admit, this is vile. I've swollen up like a beach ball - this started when I was on the pill, hence stopping but seems to have flared up more since stopping. Except it's a strange kind of swelling. Everything seems to have gone square - my hips, my boobs, my knees... to the point that my mum has a running Spongebob joke going on. It feels heavy, sometimes I can actually feel it sloshing around inside my body and it just looks gross. On top of that, my hormones are all over the place so my moods are swinging like pendulums. I feel sorry for my boyfriend on this one but I do wish he'd stop taking it personally. My skin is spotty, I feel bloated and achey. It's just grim. I mean, I might be able to deal with it if I wasn't swollen. I just feel enormous.

But still, this will pass and I'm sure I'll feel much better being completely off hormones as I've been on them since I was 17.

Until then, pass the ice cream.

Lots of Love,

Sarah xxx
